The Jane Pickens Theater and Event Center is located on Touro Street across from Washington Square in Newport.Built in 1884, the building was originally the Zion Episcopal Church.  It recently celebrated its 90th year as a theater and is still much enjoyed by theater-goers from Newport and surrounding areas for its arts films, documentaries and first-run movies.  Live opera from Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and LaScala, Milan is shown as well as live National Theatre productions from London.  The theater can be leased for parties, fund-raisers, corporate events and children's birthday parties.  There is a performance stage and seating for 494 people.  In 2008, the Friends of Jane Pickens was established to preserve the historic building long term and to enhance its use for educational purposes.
