Headed by Susan F. Cooper, the city's recreation department is in charge of local sports facilities and activities, and overseeing Newport's various recreation centers and parks. The department also offers special events throughout the year and programming and activities for residents, including sports leagues and camps. Its Golden Hill Street location is also the home of "The Hut," a popular recreation and game room for residents.
