Town Planner Gary Crosby was my guest on the 28 September edition of Portsmouth this Week. He discussed why we have Zoning and how it is used to regulate the use of land in Town. He also described the Town organizations involved in such regulation and the key documents - The Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map - that define acceptable land use. He noted that the State requires that the Zoning Ordinance and Map must be compatible with the Town's Comprehensive Plan and he is currently beginning the process for a major update of Portsmouth's Comprehensive Plan. Mr. Crosby will be back on the show soon with more information about the Zoning process, to include Variances, Special Permits, Planned Unit Developments, and other exceptions to current Zoning regulations.
John Klimm was my second guest, providing a quick update on significant Portsmouth events and then discussing my favorite topic, Portsmouth's 375th Anniversary celebration next year. We both addressed the need for more citizen involvement in the planning for events next year. Details of current planning for the 375th can be found on the 375th Steering Committee's website www.portsmouthri375.com

Thanks , I found a newspaper article from one of the many breakdowns of the turbine. The article talks about both Gary and Gary . Thanks here is the news article from the March 14 to 15 breakdown with the Jamestown tour:
http://www.jamestownpress.com/news/2012-03-15/News/Jamestown_brass_takes_tour_of_Portsmouths_wind_tur.html
"But as luck would dictate, on the day Jamestown officials went to visit, the turbine blades failed to whirl, even though there was a gusty wind.
The 336-foot tall turbine had gone out of commission due to a power outage the night before, according to Gary Crosby, Portsmouth’s assistant town planner. He is also the man in charge of the technology.
As a safety feature, Crosby said, the turbine disconnects itself from the power grid during any outage. Normally he resets the computers himself, but this time, the manual reset failed and he was obligated to call the maintenance company."

How about the down side of coal fired power plants? That is the reason why RI has one of the highest childhood asthma rates in the country.
How about our dependence on foreign oil?
Bill Carson is just a modern day deluded Don Quixote, chasing windmills as they are the bane of mans' existence.

Made a mistake it must have been the other Gary. There is one Gary that pushes the reset button on the turbine and another Gary that is or was on the PEDC..

Thanks , I don't mind being called "not real bight " or an "idiot" by some of the people who respond on this site. It's Ok I understand .Freedom of speech is great ! No harm done.
My agenda is to get the public educated about the down side of commercial wind turbines .I am not making a complaint . People need to look at the negative side of commercial wind turbines. The residents of Portsmouth never understood the total financial risk of buying a commercial wind turbine. There was NO financial risk assesment presented to the public.
The town is about to go into business with one or more wind turbine contractors. The town may in fact lease town owned land to wind turbine contractors . Legal, binding contracts between landowners and wind energy development companies are a necessary part of any wind turbine project. Wind turbine contractors want 25 year lease agreements on the land to be leased.
