Local WiFi Hotspots - a Preliminary List

Just over a month ago, in a blog post I posed the question: “Where are the local WiFi Hotspots?” The list below is compiled from my personal experience and the comments received. The blog was posted to Portsmouth, Tiverton and Middletown Patches. I know there are others and certainly more in Newport, so it is not too late to add to the list. So far, this includes:

Portsmouth WiFi Hotspots:

Clements' Market

Graziano's 501 Cafe

Custom Coffee House

Portsmouth Free Public Library

Steve's Famous Pizza

Tiverton WiFi Hotspots:

Black Goose Cafe

Dunkin' Donuts on Main Road

Tiverton Public Libraries - Essex and Union

Middletown WiFi Hotspots:

McDonald's on West Main Road

The Daily Shake

Rhea's Cafe

Middletown Public Library

Cornucopia Cafe and Catering at Wyatt Square

Chris Heaton recommended a WiFi Hotspot app http://www.jiwire.com/iphone which I haven’t tried yet. Since Apple no longer allows IPOD WiFi apps that actually searches for signals instead of referring to a database, I’ve been disappointed in the usefulness of such apps, but I may give this one a shot.

I wonder if anyone from the Chamber of Commerce or the Newport Visitor’s Bureau is or has compiled a list of available WiFi hotspots on the island?

Doug, excellent blog post. I will chime in now for Tiverton/Little Compton.

- Moose Cafe, Stafford Road, Tiverton
- Tiverton Town Hall, Highland Road
- A-1 Pizza, Little Compton

Other than the 6 mentioned, that's all I know for public Wi-Fi in my town so far. Did I miss any?

Wow, they have WIFI at the Tiverton Town Hall! I'll have to check it out. Thanks for adding to the list.

Sure thing Doug. I'll be honest. The Wi-fi at Tiverton Town Hall is faster than my own at home. It's incredible getting work done there, report stories and meet and greet all at once!

There's WiFi At My House. I Have An UnSecure Network, So You Can Park Out In Front Of My House And Use My WiFi Anytime You Like.

Little Compton with wi fi? You can't even get a cell phone to work out there.
