Battleship Cove, a Regional Treasure that Spans Generations
A few weeks ago, in late July, my wife Donna and son Luc spent a very enjoyable day in Fall River, MA, visiting Battleship Cove.
It had been decades since I visited "Big Mamie," as the USS Massachusetts was nicknamed, shortly after it opened as a museum in the late 1960s. Now there are four ships (a battleship, a destroyer, a submarine and one guided missile frigate) in the flotilla that is a unique floating museum.
There are camping opportunities at the museum, as well as function rentals for birthday parties and weddings. The key to all is authenticity and this is just that, not some Potemkin village, but the real thing.
The entire site is a testiment to the men and women who fought to keep us free. Thank you America's veterans!

Thank you! Over the years a core of dedicated volunteers have really made this site a great educational center. While the blog and photos cannot adequately do it justice, I hope that it will inspire other readers like you to consider going.

There is a nice community boating center with a friendly staff for inexpensive sail boat rentals and lessons at the cove also!

Battleship Cove is a beautiful maritime museum. Interesting place for history buffs and for anybody who is interested in wartime history, World War II. There is so much to see and do at this place. Very informative place to see the past. The place is much better than the expected. Resources like http://www.historicalplacesinamerica.com have their own database about such historical landmarks.
