I had just arrived at Connor's Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon and was sitting in my parked car. My hand was on the door handle. I pulled it slightly to open, when I saw them — two black, beady eyes staring back at me. Behind them were the brown tail feathers.

A wild turkey was staring back at me (or looking at his reflection in the glass).

He wasn't alone. Two of his friends decided to visit the West Main Road parking lot, too, and check out my car.

They circled the Chevy Aveo, one after the other. At one point, it looked liked one was going to jump on the hood, but he just pecked the grill and kept trotting around the car.

They kept me trapped inside the vehicle for a good 10 minutes, but it felt like much longer. One of the feathered friends took one more look into the glass before strutting off towards the Turnpike Avenue and West Main Road intersection.

This might be the same turkey rafter that was spotted in February on West Main Road.

Regardless if they are the same, it's fairly safe to say — Tuesday's turkey trot turned this editor a little chicken.

More turkeys were seen roaming around the top of Kyser Road and West Main Road on Friday, May 4.

Haha, thanks Spring Street! I was just using my iPhone camera. My plan (before the turkeys left) was to shoot the pictures, upload them to Twitter and hope someone would come rescue me!

OMG!!! I Love these guys... I go back and forth to work almost everyday, via Wapping Rd and there is literally a Turkey Crossing over there, nearby Peckham and Baldwin etc. Depending on what time I go by, I have literally had to stop to let upto 20 Turkeys go by... Keep in mind, these are Wild Turkeys so they are Dark Brown, not White, so in the evening they are hard to spot. I have also witnessed in the late evening, just before dark, they (so many of them) are jumping up onto the stonewall, then they jump up into the trees!!!! They sleep in the Trees overnight to portect themselves from Coyote!! But just imagine, and it is a sight to see, about 20 or more, great big Turkeys sitting in these barron trees. Then when I go by in the morning, again, depending on what time they are either all gone, or hopping out of the trees or having a last minute meeting on the ground and in the road before heading off for the day. You can also imagine what the street/road under the trees looks like everymorning :0)
They do move around so they have other spots that they go to but it truly is a sight to see, I really enjoy my encounters and have stopped several times just to watch them....

Wow Jane! They sleep in trees? Have you ever taken pictures of them in the trees?

Sandy, these turkeys are sleeping in the neighbors trees, you should camp out Rambo style and see if you can get a picture. He says they are following him around the yard now!
