Where to Spot Santa Claus This Weekend
Here's a look at where Santa Claus will appear this Friday, Saturday and Sunday around Aquidneck Island.
Looking to spot Santa Claus this weekend? Need to hand over that lengthy Christmas wish list? Well, he won't be at the North Pole! Instead, he'll be stopping by various places throughout Aquidneck Island.
Here's a look at where Santa will be this weekend in Portsmouth, Middletown and Newport:
Portsmouth
- Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday —The Hummocks and Island Park; Route 24 to Seaconnet Boulevard, Cliff Avenue to Boyd's Lane; West Main Road to East Main Road; Hedly Street south to Locust Avenue and Thurston Avenue on the east.
- Starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday —(Portsmouth) Pocasset and Botelho Heights; Terminal Road to Anthony Road, Narragansett Bay to Rout 24; Sakonnet River to East Main Road, plus Schoolhouse Lane, Martens Road area; Sherwood Drive to north of Vanderbilt Lane.
- Santa Claus will be at the St. Philomena School on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.
- On Sunday, Santa Claus will visit the Portsmouth Free Public Library at 6 p.m. for the annual tree lighting. Santa will visit with children and hear their Christmas wishes.
- On Saturday, Santa and Mrs. Claus will appear at the Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, and be available for pictures with children. Santa will visit with children from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, and on Saturday, Dec. 11. The cost for professional pictures with Santa is $5 each.
- On Sunday, Flying Santa is scheduled to visit Prudence Island's Sand Point Lighthouse at 2:15 pm. Santa Claus will land on the island via helicopter. He will hear Christmas wishes, pass out candy and be available for photos.
Middletown
- Middletown Education Collaborative Holiday Sale: Moore Blooms will be donating 10-percent off their sales on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to the Middletown Education Collaborative (MEC). In addition, the Aquidneck School Parent Teacher Group will be selling decorated wreaths from which all proceeds will benefit the Aquidneck School Parent Teacher Group. Santa will make a special appearance from 12 to 2 p.m.
Newport
- Santa's Workshop: Santa will be arriving by fire truck at Easton's Beach at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Children will enjoy crafts, refreshments, one carousel ride and one mini-train ride as well as a goody bag. Admission is $5 per child.
- Bowen's Wharf Christmas Tree Lighting: Bowen's Wharf will celebrate its 40th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday. The festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. with the arrival of Frosty the Snowman who is followed by a Christmas Carol sing-a-long at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. the tree will be lit and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be arriving by boat. Admission is free.

Flying Santa is scheduled to visit Prudence Island's Sand Point Lighthouse on Sunday, December 5th at 2:15 pm. Santa flies in on a helicopter, passes out candy canes, poses for photos, and listens to your Christmas wishes.
