Where Are Portsmouth's Most Ignored Stop Signs?

Stop signs are not optional, but they're sometimes treated as if they are.

There are hundreds of stop signs in Portsmouth, but all too often, they are overlooked when drivers are in a rush.

We have all seen it and probably many would admit of a stop sign roll-through at one point in time.

Do you know of a location where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored?

Share where it is in the comments section below.

Never mind stop signs, 3 times in 1 week I have seen older people stop at the red light at clement's then proceed to take a left through the light into clement's while it's still red! Now there is an accident waiting to happen! Better yet, how about all those idiots passing you in the turning lane near the Portsmouth shopping plaza. I had someone come head on with me. They had Mass plates.

The other day at the red light at clement's in front of CVS there was a Portsmouth Cop in his cop car in the far left lane and the light in that lane was red while the right lane had the green arrow. The cop blew the red light in the left lane and drove slowly up the hill to the Subway for a sandwich. I have his license number . What a flagrant display of " I AM ABOVE THE LAW" . Guess they have graduated from Donuts to Subway!!!

How about the light at Bristol Ferry Road and West Main Rd? There is a right turn lane only but the Aholes from MA and RI pull up in that and then drive straight through and cut you off so they can get ahead. I refuse to allow them to do that and I will just run them into the curb. What PUNKS these drivers are out here.

Just to the left of your gas pedel is another pedel when you step on it the car comes to a stop. I use mine all the time and never have a problem with stop signs and red lights. If you can't figure that out get off the road.

Uh, Robert, if you're going to criticize others for things they do wrong, it would be wise to make sure you spell the words correctly when you scold them.

Please go to www.dictionary.com and look up "pedal". If you can't figure that out, get off this website.

Nard you have people on here who are saying that they ignore stop signs putting everyone on the road at risk and all your worried about is spelling. I hope you never get hit by one of those fools. I didn't know you were the spelling police.

Robert E:

If you had written something like "I just wish everyone would please use their brake pedels" you wouldn't have heard a peep out of me.

But that's not the way you said it.

What I'm objecting to is your tone of voice. If you're going to be a nagging scold to others ("If you can't figure that out then get off the road"), and if you're going to be so bloody sanctimonious about it ("I use mine all the time and never have a problem"), then please make sure you're as perfect as you make yourself out to be.

Because you aren't.

So, no, I'm not the "spelling police", but I will call out a sanctimonious, nagging scold when I see one, Robert.

Nard I don't care if think it's sanctimonious of me or not if you don't stop at stop signs and red lights you do not belong on the road putting others lives at risk. I am not perfect I do make mistakes but these people are just ignoring these signs on perpose. By the way I have not received a traffic ticket or been stopped buy the police in over 25 years. I sorry if the fact that I know how to drive bothers you.

Ok, Joe and Robert. You guys are both getting too clever for me, so let's all go back to doing what we do best:

1) Robert, you go off to other threads and resume criticizing the foundations of other peoples' religions in the most offensive manner possible (http://portwashington-wi.patch.com/articles/gop-insiders-say-todd-akin-should-quit-stay-in-senate-race#comment_4438947).

2) Joe, you go off to other threads and post unsubstantiated facts, ignore requests for citations, and then ultimately tell the requestor(s) to "stuff it" (http://bristol-warren.patch.com/blog_posts/the-sunday-political-brunch-july-29#comment_4238728).

3) Me? I'll just stop reading Patch (http://tinyurl.com/ForRobertAndJoe).

Have fun boys.

How about the Flashing lights at Melville school. People fly through that section during the school year. I even had someone lay on the horn for me to get out of the way while I was doing the speed limit. Gits.

Well I believe in enforcing the law as it should be. I disagree with those advocating these camera's and ticket mailing. It is extremely expensive and a private company controls it not law enforcement.

Guess we forgot when Mayor Laffey tried it in Cranston and had to back away from public outrage of it. Also the Company which was an established nationwide company called NESTRA based in providence, went bankrupt soon after (ala Wind turbine Portsmouth).

We are watched and followed quite enough, by the government as it is. The information age is a dangerous thing and the more people in the mix only create more access for fraud and abuse that we see constantly.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin,

Privacy is way too much abused these days for me to support yet more intrusion under the guise of the public good. This trend is an affront to freedoms the founders never wanted surrendered to the government in my opinion.

Well, I wasn't going to reply anymore, but since you've called me out by name, "J A", I'll reply to your questions:

You asked (or maybe just shouted): "OMG, Nard, REALLY!!!"

I answer: Yes, really. Like totally. Fer sher. Your use of teenage girl acroynms and exclamation points makes me want to shout "Gag me with a spoon!!!!". If only you could figure out how make your posts in a lavender font and dot all the i's with little hearts, you'd be all set.

You asked: "Is that even a real name???"

I answer: Well, since you asked with 3 question marks, I can only assume you really-really-really want to know. My real name is Steven W. Johnson. I post on Patch because my wife harasses people with pointless, immature posts, a full 5 days after that person's last post.

You opined: "Way too much time on your hands... "

I reply: Yet you took additional time to make a comment. What does that say about you?

You pointlessly added: "Yes, people should just STOP, when there is a STOP sign!!"

I needlessly reply: Well of course they should. But your post, like many others, completely misses my point about Robert E.

If you'd like me to go away and stay away, please don't call me out by name. Please leave me alone, and I'll return the kindness. Until then, have fun, my new BFF!!!!! :).
