What Would You Ban in Portsmouth?
A number of surrounding communities have deep-sixed some interesting items and activities over the past year, but should Portsmouth join the banning bandwagon?
Last October, Barrington passed a plastic shopping bag ban that went into effect on Jan. 1.
Nearby in Massachusettes, Concord’s so-called bottle ban became a bylaw earlier this week, Brookline recently banned plastic bags and Styrofoam cups, and Arlington’s Town Meeting this fall upheld a seasonal leaf blower ban.
Meanwhile, home-cooked foods have been forced out of many schools, an ostensible attempt to protect against allergies and childhood obesity.
Portsmouth hasn’t exactly hopped on this banning bandwagon, but should it?
Is there an activity or item you would want to see banned out of environmental, health or quality-of-life concerns? Let us know in the comments section below.

I would ban putting your hazards lights on while driving through that ridiculous 20MPH school zone on East Main Rd. by St. Mary's church.

dphs18, you obviously do not have children in the school system. You would feel differently. As my children are all grown, I am all for putting your hazards on while in a school zone. Its lets people like you, know you have to slow down.

Absolutely. And I do have 2 of my 4 kids still in the school system. It actually creates a safetly problem since turn signals become difficult or impossible (depending on the lights used for the hazard flasher) to see. Nothing like a car with its flashers on stopping in the left lane unexpectedly to create an unsafe traffic snarl. How about we all just slow down to the speed limit and look out for kids instead of flashers?

Sorry Joan, I've been driving by that school for 15 years and I have never once seen a child. What about bus stops with children standing on the side of the road. Do you put your hazards on. That is a much more dangerous situation. If that school had children near the road I would be all for the 20MPH. Since there is no danger there, I will continue to drive by you and your blinking hazards at a safe speed.

Instead of worrying about what to ban, how about we worry about SPENDING LESS!

I think it could be educational and really fun to add an airsoft gun store, kinda like airsplat.com to the community! It could help get more kids into the sport of actually being outside and not in front of a computer or TV screen playing video games 24/7. I know with resent issues at schools this comment will be controversial but who know's? Just a thought..
