What's Open and Closed on Thanksgiving in Portsmouth

Here's a look at the stores and restaurants open this holiday on Thursday, Nov. 22.

 

This Thanksgiving, when the cranberry sauce turns a little runny or the bird turns a bit too black for Uncle Buck, where do you turn for help?

Luckily, we have the rundown on where to grab that last-minute can of cranberries or bandages when things get a little too rough at the family's Wii football game. 

Here's a list of the open stores and restaurants in Portsmouth this Thanksgiving:

Grocery Stores

  • The Green Grocer, 934 East Main Road, will also be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22. 

Convenience Stores/Gas Stations

  • Cumberland Farms, located at 1812 East Main Road, will be open on Thursday from 5 a.m. until midnight. The second Cumberland Farms in town, located at 3166 East Main Road, will also be open regular hours from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m.
  • Rite Aid, with locations at 3034 East Main Road and 2465 East Main Road, will be open on the holiday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • CVS/Pharmacy at 10 Turnpike Ave. will be open on Thursday, Nov. 22, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Only the gas station at the Irving Gas plaza, located at 3302 East Main Road, will be open for limited, morning hours on Thanksgiving. Bossman Burgers will closed. 

    Coffee Shops

    • Custom House Coffee, located at West Main Road and King Charles Drive, will be open Thanksgiving from 8 a.m. to noon. 
    • Dunkin' Donuts, both locations at 3001 East Main Road and 1550 West Main Road, will be open on Thanksgiving. The Dunkin' Donuts at 3001 East Main Road will be open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
    • Cindy's Country Cafe will be open 7 to 9 a.m. just for pie pickup, and Thanksgiving meals. Breakfast will not be served. 

    Taverns

    • The Beach House, 506 Park Ave., will be open most of the day on Thanksgiving from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m. 

    Most restaurant and stores will be closed today at owner's discretion, but you might want to call to double check. A full list of Portsmouth businesses can be found in our directory here.

    What else is closed today? 

    • U.S. Post Office — The post office will be closed all day today. There will also be no mail delivery today. 

    Transportation

    • Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will operate under its Sunday/holiday schedule today. All Flex Services are cancelled on Thanksgiving. To view schedules, click here.
