What Business Would You Open in Portsmouth?

Your imagination is the only limit, what would you open in Portsmouth?

Imagine you had the tools and resources at your disposal - what business would you like to open in Newport?  What would work in the community?

Here were some ideas from the Portsmouth Patch Facebook page.

Julie Barrett: yarn store but it'd not be profitable for a business. rents are way too high
Ellen Davis: I used to want a laundromat there, but then I moved. :D
Glenna Andrade: A good ice cream spot, especially up north
Rob Deacon: bass pro shop
Elizabeth Hanes: A cupcake shop

What business would you like to see in town? Tell us in the comment section!

A place with lots of parking like a Cracker Barrel or Olive Garden Restaurant. I've listened to many people from Middletown and Portsmouth who do not go to the Newport restaurants, too pricey and no parking. Middletown has a few reasonably priced ones but Portsmouth does not, especially half way between Middletown and Portsmouth. Maybe someone will finally think it is a good idea!

A bookstore, new and used with coffee and tea, newspapers, and with a Kaufman's Hardware store annex, so you could read how to fix something and than get anything in the world you needed to repair it, That man had at least one of EVERYTHING!!

Bernie always used to say.."If I don't have it, you don't need it." :)

BTW: Remember where Handrons Hardware used to be..? In January, an ACE Hardware will open there. The banners are up.

Jim that is hilarious....and I don't doubt it for a minute. He had so much stuff and so little space. I always wondered if his store was right above an abandoned coal mine or something with Five levels below the store....I still carry a small "Case" pocket knife that I bought from him.....when did he close the doors...?

Thats true, we only played street hockey on Sunday morning, and it seemed if ANYTHING in the house or car broke late saturday Dad would at Kaufman's Sunday morning, getting not the right part, but something to fix it, Went into that side room ONCE, and that was a whole nother world in it's self, art supplies, taxidermy stuff, balsa wood, left handed ring washers, I think he even might have opened the basement once, I didn't want to know what was down there! As I recall he closed about the time that M&B auto opened up at the bottom of the hill, That I think started the Blue Law fight, because they opened on Sunday morning to, Church attendantance dropped of massively as the whole town decided to fix their cars and houses on Sunday mornings only, At least i think thats what happen, no more church at the roller rink.
