VIDEO: Former Seafare Inn Becomes Training Facility for Local Fire Departments
A well-known Portsmouth restaurant, now closed and slated for demolition, was used for training by several local fire departments this past week.
You may have seen the bright red engines through the overgrown brush surrounding the former Seafare Inn this week, but there was no fire inside this once well-known restaurant.
The Seafare Inn building, which is slated to be demolished and the future home for townhouses, is being temporarily used by the Portsmouth, Middletown and Tiverton Fire Departments this week for training purposes.
The departments underwent training with thermal-imaging cameras, heat sensors and conducted search and rescue procedures.
Capt. Michael Cranson of the Portsmouth Fire Department explains the training in the video featured above.
The building's current owners, the Apollo Partner, allowed the fire departments to use the building for free.

The Sea Fare Inn was origanlly built for the wife of the founder of Cherry & Webb Stores and its too bad it is coming down as it is of such historical value although its apprance has changed over the years. It will be gone forever as was the historical home of former Senator Walter Miska's house that was on the corner of East Main and Sprague St knocked down many years ago and now just an overgrown lot.

I agree, it's a shame that many of these historic (and beautiful) old biuldings fall into such disrepair. Craftmanship like that rarely exists nowadays and it makes me sad to think that it may be lost forever.
