Video: Follies Poke Fun at Portsmouth, Politicians

Charlie Hall and the Ocean State Follies targeted their political punches and jokes at a number of politicians Saturday night, from Gov. Lincoln Chafee to Portsmouth Town Councilor Judi Staven.

From Lincoln Chafee and Mario Hilario, from the Rhode Island state bird to the Big Blue Bug, no Rhode Island personality and well-known icon was safe from the Ocean State Follies' comedic waves at Saturday's performance in Portsmouth.

The performance was exceptionally special, as one of the introductory speakers Leonard Katzman said, because, "we don't get much from upstate except unfunded mandates."

The comedic group, now in its 20th year of performing, poked fun and political punches at various well-known figures from former Gov. Bruce Sundlun to Portsmouth Town Councilor Judi Staven.

The event, held inside the Common Fence community hall on Anthony Road, was a fundraiser for the Portsmouth Democratic Town Committee. More than 200 Democrats and Republicans from Portsmouth, and a few from Tiverton, attended the event.

Portsmouth Town Councilor James Seveney volunteered as bartender for the night, while former School Committee member Marge Levesque collected tickets at the door.
