UPDATE: Bomb Scare in Tiverton

Information is still forthcoming in this ongoing investigation into a situation in a private home that caused the evacuation of about two dozen in the Middle Avenue area on Monday.

Police ordered the mandatory evacuation of about two dozen homes in the area of Middle Road at around 11 a.m. on Monday after receiving reports of a bomb inside a home.

After Tiverton Police received a call around 10 a.m. on Monday, Chief Thomas Blakey said he made a decision to investigate a possible explosive device at 82 Middle Road.

Following protocols, Tiverton Police and the Fire Department were on scene along with the state bomb squad and the state fire marshal to investigate.

"We worked with these agencies on the matter and all matters were addressed," said Blakey on Monday evening. "No one is in harms way and at no time was there any actual present danger."

According to a report by on EastBayRI.com, a realtor who was showing 82 Middle Road to prospective buyers on Sunday saw a device that resembled a bomb with a timer, took a picture and called police.

The device was reportedly an alarm clock made to look like a bomb.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, according to Blakey.
