Republicans Claim Three School Board Seats

Facing her first election, Cynthia Perrotti is the big winner.

Voters elected three Republicans and one Democrat to the Portsmouth School Committee, subject to mail ballots yet to be counted.

Only two incumbents—Marjorie Levesque and Cynthia Perrotti—ran for re-election. This was actually Perrotti's first time running for office, and she appears to be the largest vote-getter in the group.

Perrotti was appointed to the School Committee by the Town Council in May 2009. The appointment was made to fill a vacancy on the committee, which was left by Jamie R. B. Heaney.

Only four of the seven School Committee seats were open this year. Each term will last four years. Unofficial winners are shown below in bold.

The republican candidates said they would run our schools effectively and save all of the music, arts, and sports programs. Now is the time to hold them accountable for their words!! They claim they can do it... I say prove it! For the sake of every child in this community I hope I am wrong and I truly hope they succeed. I would rather eat my own words than see any program cut or taken away from any child in our schools. Show me you can get it done at the expense of not even one child or program and I will vote for you myself in the next election! You wanted it... you got it... now go prove you were right!

Doesn't Marge L. have more votes than Vadney according to the chart?

The numbers for Vadney were inputted incorrectly in the chart last night. Those numbers have now been changed.
