Rep. Dan Gordon Plans to Pen Memoir

Rep. Dan Gordon tells the Associated Press he plans to write a book.

Embattled Rep. Dan Gordon says he's writing an autobiography, according to the Associated Press.

There are no plans to publish the book, Gordon says in the article. Gordon also says he will not step down and plans to run for a second term.

The freshmen representative's past criminal and military records became the center of a widespread media inquiry after his arrest in September. Gordon was charged as a fugitive from justice on a Massachusetts warrant for failure to appear on an eluding charge and other motor vehicle violations, according to the State Police report.

Since then, many politicians, including Gov. Lincoln Chafee, have called for Gordon's resignation. This past weekend, the leader of a Tiverton political action committee issued a statement asking for Gordon (R-Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton) to resign.

"Based upon the numerous revelations regarding the background of Representative Daniel Gordon, we at Tiverton Citizens for Change believe he can no longer effectively represent the District 71 and urge him to immediately resign his house seat," stated David Nelson, president, in an e-mail. "The serious questions surrounding Mr Gordon’s character indicate that he has lost the trust of those who elected him and we call on him to honor his pledge to resign if requested by his constituency."
