If a woman in your life says "don't bother buying me flowers," you're probably better off doing it anyway.
Why? Because no matter how traditional of a gift they are, flowers are an immediate pick-me-up. They're fresh, colorful and quite the pleasant surprise.
That said, you can't give just any flowers. (Forgo the carnations and don't even think about picking a few out of the front lawn.) Make it a bouquet, the bigger the better. Roses always win.
Luckily, there are dedicated local florists who can help you get it right.
This week, we want to know: Which florist in town is your favorite?
Is it Carlone's Florist, Clements' Marketplace, Mello's Farm and Flower Center, Maplewood Farm, Island Garden Shop, DeCastro & Sons Farm, Botanica (formerly The Potting Shed) or Domina's Agway?
Vote in our poll below, then share your thoughts in the comments section. If we left your favorite florist off the list, note that in the comments as well.
Don't forget to check out other Readers' Choice polls to find a business out of town, say Newport or Middletown.
We'll leave the poll up all week then close voting at 9 a.m. Friday. At noon that day, we'll share your top local pick. Then be sure to watch the site over the weekend when we tally up the top votes and announce the florists that got the most rave reviews across all of our Rhode Island sites.
Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Maplewood Farms offers fabulous annuals and herbs! I used baskets of potted herbs as centerpieces for my wedding last year. Our guests loved taking home beautiful, edible 'party favors.'
We saved money with live plants instead of cut flower arrangements that would have been dead a week later.

This poll is a little off don't you think?? When you ask who the Best "FLORIST" is in town - Portsmouth only has 1(ONE) Florist - Carlone's Florist. Everyone else listed is either a Garden shop or a Grocery Store!

Then what you are saying is that the poll should be deleted as you can't ask people where their favorite place to buy flowers is if there is only on option in the poll. Correct? Just email the admins and ask them to delete the poll then....

To be honest the poll does ask who is the best florist in Portsmouth not where is the best place to buy flowers in Portsmouth there is only one answer. Portsmouth has only one florist so the answer is simple and can only be Carlone's nobody else in the poll is a florist and therefor can't be counted.
