Do all the schools in Portsmouth have both a principal and vice principal on the payroll? In a town this size and given the economic challenges, you would think there are opportunities to consolidate overhead positions.

I completely agree with "resident". The island should consolidate school systems and regionalize - 1 Superintendent instead of 3 and less overhead positions!

@resident: This article is about an assistant principal, not a vice principal and, no, all Portsmouth schools do not have both a principal and an assistant principal on the payroll. The high school does, and the position is to deal with disciplinary issues in a building with just under 1000 teenagers.

@Wondering What... The independent, business-funded Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC) performed an economic study on regionalization of the island school systems. Bottom line is that Portsmouth ends up paying more under regionalization, while Middletown and Newport pay less. Still like the idea?

Can Patch every publish an education-related article w/o it leading to a referendum on the state of public schooling in RI? It's truly unbelievable. I wish Patch would publish a link to the comment section so that it's not force fed down our throats. My visits to these types of sites are becoming less frequent because of these internet trolls. Congrats to Colleen. Good luck.
