Portsmouth School Committee Elects New Chairwoman

The Portsmouth School Committee voted in a new leader Tuesday night.

The Portsmouth School Committee voted in a new leader on Tuesday night. 

Marilyn King was elected chairwoman of the school committee. The vote was 4-2 with members David Croston and Sylvia Wedge opposed. 

As chairwoman, King appointed Angela Volpicelli as clerk. Jonathan Harris will remain as vice chairman of the committee.

King will fill the role left vacant after . Chairwoman Perrotti announced last week her intentions to step down from the school board for "personal reasons." 

The vote also took place before the town council fills the empty seat on the committee. By town charter, the council is tasked with appointing a new member.

The deadline for applications is June 5 at noon. Applications for the school committee vacancy can be picked up in the  or on the town's Web site
