School Committee Appoints Lynn Krizic As New Superintendent of Schools

The School Committee has chosen Illinois Dr. Lynn Krizic as superintendent.

The Portsmouth School District has a new superintendent.

The Portsmouth School Committee has surprisingly hired Dr. Lynn Krizic, who will move to Portsmouth from Illinois.

The announcement was made by School Committee Chairwoman Cynthia S. Perrotti at Tuesday evening’s school committee meeting. The hiring of the superintendent was not listed on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting.

This ends the process of selecting a new superintendent, a process that began after Dr. Susan Lusi announced she was not seeking a renewal of her contract on Jan. 11.

According to Perrotti, Krizic began her educational career as a speech and language pathologist and a special educator.

In 2006, she became the superintendent of an 8,200-student school district called Elmhurst District 205 in Illinois.

She also facilitated the development of a new teacher evaluation system; fostered the development of curriculum maps and curriculum initiatives; and oversaw various building projects.

During her tenor, schools under her direction won national blue ribbons and were listed on the Washington Post/Newsweek 2011 America’s Best High School.

The school system also received a certificate of excellence from the American Association of School Business Officials.

Krizic holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree, as well as a doctorate, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Perrotti said a unanimous vote to offer the job to Krizic took place last Wednesday, June 8, in an executive meeting. Krizic accepted the offer on Friday, June 10.

Her contract will be for three years at $145,000 per year. A $2,000 allowance to assist in her move was also offered and accepted.

Krizic will begin work on July 5.
