Portsmouth Pitcher Among Nation's Best

Former Portsmouth High School pitcher Tim Flight, now playing for Southern New Hampshire University, is racking up the awards as he continues in his college career.
Flight, a junior, was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Pitcher of the Year last week, reports the Providence Journal. He was also named a NCBWA First Team All-American and East Region Pitcher of the Year, and he is a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award — presented to the best player in Division II baseball.
The left-handed pitcher had a 9-1 record with a 1.30 earned run average and 140 strikeouts in 102.2 innings of work this season. Also the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year, Flight ranked among the national leaders in strikeouts, ERA and strikeouts per nine innings.

Flight, a 2008 graduate, was a two-sport star at Portsmouth High School, standing out in baseball and basketball. He was named to the All-state and All-conference team for the Patriots.
