Portsmouth Girl Wins Macy's Spelling Bee for Region, Proceeds to Finals
Nicole Fontaine won the annual Macy's Spelling Bee for Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. She will compete in the final spelling bee on Sept. 24.
Nicole Fontaine is heading to New York City to S-P-E-L-L her way to success.
Fontaine, a fifth-grader at Portsmouth Middle School, won the annual Macy's Spelling Bee for the region of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut on Sept. 10. She will now compete in the national spelling bee championship on Sept. 24 in Macy's Herald Square, New York City.
"I think it's going to be fun," Nicole said recently about her trip.
Fontaine won an all-expense paid trip to New York City for the national spelling bee championship.
She also won one-year of online learning from Kaplan Smart Track and a $150 online gift card from Scholastic.
Nicole, who says she loves reading and spelling, is also very active in sports, from gymnastics and rock climbing to cheerleading.
The winner of Macy's Final Spelling Bee in New York City will receive a California vacation for a family of four, including round-trip air travel, hotel accommodations and more. In addition, the winner will receive a $5,000 Kaplan Tutoring Scholarship and a $500 Scholastic gift card.
