Portsmouth Council Swears in First Female Firefighter; Honors Local Documentary Producer

The Town Council officially swore in new firefighters Gretchen N. Ardito, the town's first female firefighter, and Thomas J. Rousseau at Monday's meeting.

 

The Town Council officially swore in two new firefighters at Monday night's meeting.

Third Class Firefighters Gretchen N. Ardito and Thomas J. Rousseau were both sworn into office Monday at Town Hall. Ardito is the town's first female firefighter to be hired by the Portsmouth Fire Department.

Producer Richard Talipsky, chairman of the Portsmouth Economic Development Committee, was also awarded a proclamation by the council.

Talipsky was the producer on the documentary "Catch the Wind: Portsmouth's Wind Turbine," which recently won an award at the 2010 Rhode Island Public Education and Government Awards ceremony. The documentary was judged as the best program for Category 3, which was titled "Best Documentary Program."

The production was also presented the John Notte III award for "Outstanding Achievement in Public Access" as the best program for public access in 2009-2010.

It's time to tell the public the truth about what happened to the three year old wind turbine . It's nice to tell people good news about wind turbines but let's be honest folks the turbine is a fiasco !
