Poll: Is the Health Care Act a Violation of Our Liberties?

Starting in 2014 you will be required to be enrolled in an insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act

In a historical decision this week, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to uphold Obama's health care law which was enacted in 2010.

Under the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, starting in 2014, you must be enrolled in a health insurance plan that meets basic minimum standards. If you do not enroll in a plan, you may be required to pay a penalty.

By 2016, the fine for non-compliance could reach up to $2085 per family or 2.5 percent of income, whichever is greater.

Citizens who fall under income requirements will have access to Medicaid, which will be expanded under the plan.

Supporters of the plan say this will reduce the hidden cost of uninsured patients, which is currently absorbed by taxpayers.

Some opponents say it is a violation of our individual liberties.

What IS a violation of MY "liberty"...is people who elect NOT to have health insurance and then use the ER as their primary care doctor....and, that, I have witnessed....everyone in this country should be able to have affordable health insurance...if not..it makes the premiums for those of us who do have health insurance more....those who are insured are in essence paying for those who aren't insured...and to me that is a "violation of my liberty"...whatever that means....the USA is the best country in the world and all citizens should have health coverage....it is unconscionable that we don't.....I totally support the "Affordable Care Act":....although like many, I don't know everything that is in it....but, if a "sliding scale" is used to pay for premiums then it should be affordable......but, now, if people know they can go to the ER and get treatment payed for by others, why would they want to spend $ on premiums? In many cases, it is a matter of "priorities" and people who are gambling with their health....They think, "oh, I'm healthy now"....and "these premiums are expensive" so the health insurance is dropped.....then they get sick......Americans should not have to choose between health insurance and food....I am proud that the Supreme Court made a decision that is right for America and not one that follows party lines.....I am sick to death of the GOP working just to oust President Obama.....why aren't they working toward the good of all Americans?

I belive it should be a state decision. The people in Mass. decided they wanted it, good for them but we don't need the feds telling us that we should do this. This country was set up to be groups of independent states that decide these things themselves, Susan, you should read the book about the beginnings of Newport and how our little county, Newport, shaped the country, the book is titled "A lively Little Experment". The Orwell's "1984" was a warning not an instruction book as some are working toward.
