Police Log: Woman Allegedly Beats Man With Broomstick

• One Portsmouth man had an unlucky Friday the 13th after a woman allegedly hit him with a broomstick. April Hames, 54, of 760 Bristol Ferry Road, was arrested Saturday, Jan. 14, in connection with an argument on Friday the 13th. A 68-year-old Portsmouth man told police he became involved in an argument with Hames around 11 p.m. Friday. During the argument, she allegedly struck him multiple times with a broomstick handle in his chest. Hames later turned herself in at the police station. She was charged with domestic, simple assault. 

• Scott Bruneau, 18, of 14 Third St., Portsmouth, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 13, at 8:30 p.m. Bruneau was wanted on the charge of domestic, simple assault. A 20-year-old Bristol female told police she became involved in an argument with Bruneau on Jan. 8 at a Mason Avenue home. During the argument, Bruneau allegedly grabbed her by the arms and pushed her away. Police obtained an affidavit arrest warrant for Bruneau, who was arrested at his home Friday. He was later released after appearing before a justice of the peace. 

• Raymond Mahoney, 29, of Hyannis, MA, was arrested Sunday, Jan. 15, after police stopped a vehicle for allegedly speeding on West Main Road near the . Mahoney, a passenger in the vehicle, was wanted on two warrants: a bench warrant from Second District Court and an affidavit arrest warrant from the Newport Police Department. Mahoney was transported to the Portsmouth police station and later turned over to the custody of Newport police.
