Police: Woman, Allegedly Drunk, Calls 911 To Complain About RIPTA

Woman Calls Police After Removed From RIPTA Bus

A Providence woman was arrested Thursday, April 19, after she apparently called 911 to report that a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus refused to stop for her.

A RIPTA driver stopped the bus he was operating at 12:20 p.m. Thursday near a police detail on East Main Road and Sprague Street. A passenger on the bus, identified as Virginia Hall, 43, of Providence, was allegedly intoxicated and asking other riders for money. 

The officer on detail asked Hall to leave the bus. Police say she exited and stated she would wait for another bus.

However, police were called back to the intersection at 2 p.m. Hall allegedly called 911, stating a RIPTA bus didn't stop for her. "She said she was upset at another RIPTA bus that didn't pick her up," said Lt. Brian Peters. 

Hall was also allegedly yelling and standing in the roadway. She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. 

Portsmouth man turns himself in 

, 23, of 12 Donna Drive, was arrested Thursday, April 19, at 7 a.m. at the police station. Bateman was wanted on a Second District Court warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing. 

He turned himself in at the police station Thursday. 

Portsmouth man arrested on warrant

, 25, of 22 Riverside St., was arrested Monday, April 23, at 4:45 p.m. Kirtland was wanted on a Second District Court bench warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing. 

Police stopped a vehicle, operated by Kirtland, on Anthony Road at Rhode Island Avenue. An officer was aware of Kirtland's warrant. Kirtland was later arraigned before a justice of the peace. 

Man, allegedly connected to February chase, returns to scene of crime

Scott Deasley, 40, of Fall River, was arrested Monday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in connection with a car chase that occurred this past February. 

A police officer was involved in a chase of a speeding, stolen vehicle in Island Park on Feb. 28. The chase ended on Gormley Avenue, but the suspect and driver of the vehicle had fled on foot. Police were unable to locate the suspect at the time. 

The investigation led police to Deasley, who was later charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding police and driving on a suspended license. 

Police obtained an affidavit arrest warrant for Deasley. Officers stopped a vehicle Monday on Park Avenue at Gormley Avenue for a "registration issue." Deasley was a passenger in the vehicle. 

He was arrested at the scene and held overnight at the police station. He was arraigned Tuesday morning.
