Portsmouth police made the following arrests this past week. 

Middletown man charged with shoplifting soup, beef kabobs

Gerald Dillon, 65, of Middletown, was arrested Sunday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. after allegedly shoplifting at Clements' Market. 

Dillon apparently entered the market and took two grocery bags from the front of the store. He then allegedly filled the bags with several items, including beef kabobs, soup, pastries, soda and a copy of The Providence Journal newspaper. 

The items totaled $45, police said. Dillon then allegedly left the store without paying. He was stopped by a store employee outside until police arrived. 

Dillon was arrested and charged with shoplifting. 

Portsmouth man allegedly delivers stolen iPod

Keifer Woods, 20, of 86 Norseman Drive, Portsmouth, was arrested Sunday, July 22, at 11 a.m. after being seen walking on East Main Road. 

Woods was wanted on an affidavit arrest warrant on the charge of receiving stolen goods.

Police say Woods allegedly delivered an iPod to another individual. An investigation showed the iPod was stolen from Tiverton. 

Woods was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was also charged with vandalism after allegedly pulling up flooring in the prison cellblock. 

Providence man arrested after hiding in shrubbery 

Eric Moreira, 34, of Providence, was arrested Monday, July 23, and charged with violating a no contact order. 

Police responded to the Bay View Apartments after receiving a report of a man hiding behind shrubs. He was then seen apparently running from the shrubs to Old West Main Road. 

Police responded and found Moreira hiding behind a tractor trailer truck on Old West Main Road. 

Police say Moreira got into an argument with a 29-year-old Portsmouth woman at the apartments before officers arrived. Moreira was court ordered to not contact this woman. 

Woman allegedly sends harassing text messages

Holly Brennan, 24, of North Dartmouth, MA, was arrested Monday, July 23, at 4 p.m. after turning herself in at the Portsmouth police station. Brennan was wanted on an affidavit arrest warrant for allegedly sending harassing text messages. 

Police say Brennan sent text messages repeatedly to a 28-year-old Portsmouth man after she was told to stop. 

Man arrested after allegedly swearing, yelling at woman's door

Jeffrey Bucci, 31, of Almy Knoll Terrace, Portsmouth, was arrested Monday, July 23, at 10 p.m. after a motor vehicle stop on Union Street. Bucci was wanted on an affidavit arrest warrant from an incident earlier that same day. 

Police say a 33-year-old Portsmouth woman received phone calls from Bucci on Monday morning. Bucci allegedly yelled and swore on the calls. 

He then allegedly visited the woman's Portsmouth home, where he banged on the back sliding glass door, yelled and swore. A no trespassing order had been issued previously to Bucci on July 16. 

Bucci was charged with domestic, trespassing; domestic, making threatening phone calls; and domestic, disorderly conduct. 

East Providence man arrested on warrant

Edward Galipeau, 45, of East Providence, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday, July 24, at 8 p.m. after a motor vehicle stop on East Main Road near Foodworks Restaurant. 

Galipeau was wanted by Providence police on a simple assault charge. He was arrested and later turned over to Providence police. 

Warwick man arrested for allegedly driving under the influence 

David Tingle, 46, of Warwick, was arrested Wednesday, July 25, at 7:50 p.m., and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. 

Police say the arrest stems from a hit and run motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 24 South near the Sakonnet River Bridge. A vehicle, operated by Tingle, clipped the side mirror of another vehicle and continued traveling on Route 24. 

The other driver obtained a license plate number. Police later observed the vehicle leaving Ferreira's Liquor Store parking lot. Officer say they detected a strong aroma of alcohol coming from the vehicle. 

Tingle apparently failed a field sobriety test and, after being transported to police headquarters, allegedly refused to submit to a chemical test. 

Tingle could also face additional charges stemming from the crash in Tiverton, police said. 

Portsmouth man arrested after allegedly pushing woman

Theodore Amado, 46, of 14 Riverside St., Portsmouth, was arrested Wednesday, July 25, at 8 p.m. 

Police were called to Riverside Street for an apparent domestic disturbance. Amado allegedly became involved in an argument with a 49-year-old Portsmouth woman. During the argument, he allegedly grabbed her by the arms and pushed her. 

Amado allegedly resisted arrest and kicked at an officer. He was eventually arrested and charged with the following: domestic, simple assault; resisting arrest; and simple assault. 

He was held overnight at the police station and expected to be arraigned in the morning.
