Police Log: 2 Men Allegedly Caught 'Copper-Handed'
The following is based on reports from the Portsmouth Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Two Portsmouth men were allegedly caught in the act of stealing scrap metal from a gated residence Tuesday.
Police were called to a Prescott Point residence around 2 p.m.
A property manager had stopped two men, who were identified as Stephen Souza, 20, of 217 Spring Hill Road, and Bryan Leary, 21, of 63 Clearview Ave.
The property manager saw the two men allegedly leaving a residence with copper pipes and scrap metal in buckets, police said. The men reportedly carried two, five-gallon buckets filled with copper, as well as a copper tank.
The manager detained the two men until police arrived. Officers say they also discovered a vehicle parked just outside a locked gate to the residence.
Both men were arrested and charged with larceny under $500. They were held overnight at the police station and arraigned the next morning.
Warren man charged with possession of marijuana
Gonzalo Nadales, 18, of Warren, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after police stopped a vehicle on West Main Road near Turkey Hill Tuesday.
The vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation. Police say they detected an aroma of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Nadales, a passenger, allegedly told police he had a marijuana cigarette or joint. He then allegedly handed the joint over to the officer.
He was charged and released with a court summons.
