Despite warnings and detour signs, many vehicles were seen driving down Point Road Friday morning to attempt to cross the now closed Cove "Escape" Bridge

These vehicles turned around once they saw the orange barricades (pictured above) and the police detail. An electronic sign has also been set up just before the 15 Point Road Restaurant. The signs tells drivers to "Seek Alternative Routes."

The Department of Transportation (DOT) shut down the aging, 50-year-old superstructure just after 1 p.m. Thursday due to "significant deterioration" found in a recent study. The bridge is expected to be closed until late spring.
