PHOTOS: Crews Demolish Shell Gas Station on East Main Road
Two Rhode Island companies work to remove the Portsmouth Shell gas station canopy and tanks.
The familiar yellow, red, and white canapé that has adorned the Portmouth Shell, 2525 East Main Road, at the bottom of Quaker Hill, has been removed as part of a rehab of the station.
According to workers on the site, NBW Environmental Services of North Scituate is spearheading the operation. Rambone Disposal of Johnson is removing the debris.
The underground fuel tanks were removed Monday.
According to Denise Davis of the Portsmouth Building inspectors’ office, at this point in time there only exists a construction permit for the deconstruction of the canopy and removal of the tanks.
Davis said there is nothing on the zoning docket for any type of expansion or rehabilitation of the building itself.
