The first of such events will be a protest outside the Portsmouth Town Council meeting Monday night. The group also plans to protest at the School Committee meeting, as well as protest a Democrat forum planned at Food Works later in the week.

Looks like a bunch of skinny jean wearing, flannel shirt sporting HIPSTERS. Need to find something better to do your their time. Like go to school. get a job. be atax paying citizen of the USA. Contribute to society. Work hard and make money and you wont have to protest. Everyone has the same opportunities in life. need to take advantage of it.

I believe the first requirement for the portsmouth occupy group is to be a land owner in portsmouth.

They are protesting the Democratic party in Portsmouth??? That's hysterical! In Portsmouth the Republicans hold the majority. Five of seven on the town council are Republican and there are three Republicans and two Democrats in Republican clothing on the school side (for a total of 5 out of 7). We also have two Republicans (oops... sorry Dan Gordon... one Republican and one "Independent" representing Portsmouth on the state level. Hey... I say Occupy Away if that is what floats your boat, but at least get your facts straight where the politics of this town are concerned. Want to institute a change within town politics??... then maybe they should try Occupying the PCC...

M.P.- We are not targeting the Democratic Party alone, we would go after the local Republicans as well but they have no announced events like this that we are aware of. If you are aware of any, please let us know and we will occupy them too.
Ice Fischer- Unfortunately the requirements for making money is not just working hard. In Rhode Island you have to work 96 hours a week at minimum wage to afford a two bedroom housing unit. Working hard isn't enough, but if you own a bank you can get a bailout anytime you need one.

If you put this much time and effort into either finding a job, better job or starting your own business maybe you wouldn't have the time to "occupy" anything.

Begs the question - why not just have a rally at Bank of Newport, NewportFed, People's Credit Union? All are located in Portsmouth. Why target the gov't?

Did you know that the banking industry is among the most highly regulated in America? Bankers can't even go to the bathroom without the government looking over their shoulders! When we are in such trouble, why do the government beaurocrats get a pass when they have been paid $billions in taxes to do their job? Madoff is a thief who should have been caught by the SEC long ago! The only system that broke down was government! The "rich" is not the problem, corrupt government is and their media accomplises who cover for their lies. Ask yourselves, what responsible leader divides Americans rather than unite us? If you want to make a positive change, fight corruption! It's in our government, in our colleges, in the media, it's everywhere! Just be aware, those who would pit one American against another to advance their agenda so they remain in power, they are your enemy. Stand for liberty and fight for freedom, not for free stuff!

Occupy Portsmouth in this Town please be advised that the Republicans backed by the PCC are the bad guys. Democrates are not even in the majority. Please get your figures correct before you occupy a Town. You could do more damage than good.

With only 18,000 of us in town “Occupy Portsmouth” just sounds as silly as Occupy Mayberry. You folks better keep it peaceful or Sherriff Taylor will send Deputy Fife down there with his bullet. If it gets real bad he may have to deputize Gomer.
The Occupy group will be splintered when one of them is sent down the hill to fetch four ice cawfees at the DD.

Ok, let me get this straight. Occupy Portsmouth is going to occupy the council, school committee and whatever other political group there is because it's there fault for the economy the way it is? Hmmm. Sounds like the occupiers just need something to do in town. Your pointing fingers at the WRONG PEOPLE! I think I'll start a group that will occupy the occupiers!

To Occupy Portsmouth: if you really want to make a difference in Portsmouth, then go after the PCC... they are the Republican establishment in this town... unless you are already PCC trying to rename your tarnished brand. While I am a supporter of the Occupy movement, I'm not quite sure Portsmouth is the proper venue. While there are some who may have made their money profiting from the underhanded dealings of wall street and hedge fund brokers, they certainly are not sitting in the Portsmoutth Democratic town committee meetings. Do your homework and spend your time and efforts where you might actually make a difference.

Our purpose in occupy the democratic town meeting is to make sure they know we are here and watching them. We will probably go after the PCC as well, but this week will not be our only week of protest, you are welcome to come to the GA on April 3rd to voice your concerns.

East Side, that's a very disenfranchising kind of comment you made, "I believe the first requirement for the portsmouth occupy group is to be a land owner in portsmouth."
Actually, you just have to be registered to vote. The land-owning requirement was put to rest somewhere in the mid-19th century. I guess the Fox News-brainwashed types only adhere to the parts of the Constitution they agree with.

My attempt was to suggest a filtering technique and since I find these groups a complete disgrace to America (yes, we are a capitalist society) them being land owners could be extremely limited. I find it interesting that this group continues to discuss the banks and Madoff with the same sentence as to bring the troops together to rally Portsmouth. I guess i'm confused on what they will actually be doing in Portsmouth, especially CFP. Why don't they rally in Sea Meadow?

I agree, I can't afford to own land in Portsmouth, I rent, but my children attend school, here, I patronize the retail establishments, I care about the quality of life as much as anyone else. I also agree that occupying the Democratic party is ridiculous. Occupy the PCC and the Town Council thee next time they won't fund our already suffering school system.

Rhode Island has been under democratic control forever. That's why we are last in just about every state category. High taxes, poor education, welfare, a haven for illegals etc.,etc How about a new name for our state. "The Greek State, instead of the Ocean State.
