NRA: Put ‘Armed Police Officers’ in Every School

In a press conference held Friday morning, the head of the NRA called for armed police officers to guard our nations schools

During its first press conference since the Sandy Hook School shooting last Friday, the National Rifle Association (NRA) called for schools to be armed with police officers.

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," said NRA executive Wayne LaPierre.

LaPierre said school children defenseless "and the predators of the world know it and exploit it."

LaPierre urged Congress  ”to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school in this nation.

At least one Patch reader does not agree.

"We can't even afford teachers," said Mike Barbas on the Middletown Patch Facebook page.  "Good guys with guns is not the answer."

What do you think about the NRA's call for armed police officers in our schools? Tell us in the comments!

Armed School Monitors: How much does it cost the town of Portsmouth to station a RETIRED police officer in front of a sewer cleanout crew....OR a Cox Cable crew stringing some wire..? It's VERY Lucritive for the retiree. Why not just post these officers at a school..

The costs associated with a police "detail" are covered by the contractor, (Cox, Verizon, etc.).
And Columbine had two armed security guards, VT had a complete police force, how'd that work out?

Thanks Townie for the Info. I wasn't aware "Who" paid. ....makes sense. I still think armed security in the schools makes sense though. Banks have guards. Court Houses have guards. The State House has guards..etc Some businesses have guards.....Raytheon..etc

I don't think WalMarts have guards....look what happenns there when more than one customer wants the same thing that's ON Sale.

Why not just arm each child? They could be taken to the gun range before they start kindergarten..Holsters could be added to backpacks...after all, if the bad guy wins the shootout with the school guard...the kids need to be ready...the NRA "solutions" are laughable...if they didn't make me want to cry...

Hmm... great way to sell more guns... add several thousand security guards to schools... Seems the NRA knows exactly what they are saying...

The problem of too many guns is best met with more guns...

Not!

By La Pierre's logic, we should have and armed officer in every theater, Mc Donalds, Mall and post office. Shall I continue with my list???

Do we really want to live in a society where "armed guards" are required everywhere to keep normal citizens "safe"? In the theaters, in church, in schools...is just a matter of time before more is added to the list...parks, playgrounds, grocery stores, hospitals...what next? All other industries have reasonable restrictions on citizens to protect them from harmful products (like the pharmaceutical industry, where you need a doctor to prescribe certain harmful drugs). The only reason the gun industry wants no restrictions is so they can sell more guns...they are just hiding behind the 2nd amendment to protect their revenues and profits.

Armed guards will have little or no effect. Just look at Columbine and Virginia Tech.

Everyone was SO concerned about Obama creating a police state just a few years ago, and now, here you are asking for stormtroopers in our schools. Don't fear the government, fear the "responsible" gun owners and the NRA.
