Nearly 2,000 Customers Lose Power in Newport County
Power outages continued to be reported and restored by National Grid throughout Portsmouth Sunday evening.

As of 9:45 p.m. Sunday night, National Grid was reporting on its Web site that of the 2,565 customers that had lost power throughout Rhode Island, 1,968 were from Newport County: 1,346 customers from Tiverton; 237 from Portsmouth; 205, Middletown; 124, Little Compton; 44, Jamestown; and 12 from Newport.
As National Grid responded to storm repairs, these counts continued to change rapidly as more outages were reported and others were recorded as restored.
Customers losing power in Portsmouth were mainly located in Common Fence Point. Portsmouth fire responded to a number of calls regarding fallen electrical wires throughout the evening.
"We've had some wires down and very localized power outages," said Portsmouth Fire Chief Jeffrey Lynch.
