Portsmouth Man Arrested for First-Degree Child Molestation in Newport

Newport police arrested Raymond J. Correira, 26, of 220 Redwood Road, Portsmouth, on Thursday, May 31, for first-degree child molestation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges.
According to police reports, Correira took a 13-year-old Portsmouth girl to a Motel 6 in Newport and had sex with her.
Police received a call from Hasbro Children's Hospital informing them that a 13-year-old girl was being treated for molestation, which she said happened at a hotel in Newport. The victim reportedly told police that the incident was consensual.
The victim told police that she and her mother had gotten into a fight on Tuesday, May 29, and she left the house and went to Redwood Park, where she met up with Correira. She said she recognized him from previous visits to the park when he had been with his dogs.
The two then went to Gleason's Liquor Store, where Correira bought beer, and then to a beach on the end of Bellevue Avenue, possibly Bailey's Beach, police reports said. She told police she thought she drank between seven to eight beers during the course of the night.
Police obtained surveillance video of Correira and the girl checking in to the Motel 6 after a clerk confirmed they had rented the room. They also found Blue Moon beer, a used condom, and a room key holder in the Motel 6 dumpster.
The victim's mother said she reported her daughter missing when she did not return form her walk on Tuesday. School officials informed her on Wednesday that her daughter had been at school that day.
The victim said Correira dropped her off at Portsmouth Middle School.
Correira turned himself in to police on Thursday when he learned that he was wanted the two charges.
