Earvin "Magic" Johnson celebrated his 53rd birthday on Tuesday surrounded by a host of celebrities at the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth.
Johnson was at the club to kick-off the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic golf tournament. A rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday" was led by the legendary Smokey Robinson with Jeffrey Osborne, Tiny Taveras, the O'Jays, Johnny Gill of "New Edition" fame.
Music and sports stars gathered at the Carnegie Abbey Club as part of the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic golf tournament to save youth arts and music programs in Rhode Island, raising more than $150,000 for local charities, including the Boys & Girls Club of America.
Other charities included the Amos House, Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School and The MET School. The 2012 presenting sponsors were Alex and Ani, East Commerce Solutions, and The Providence Journal.
Sports and entertainment celebrities who attended to support the cause included Smokey Robinson, Doc Rivers, Sinbad, John Havlicek, Pat Riley, Peabo Bryson, Andre Tippett, The O’Jays, Ernie DiGregorio, Joe Morgan, Kevin Frazier, Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, Tim Welsh, Claudia Jordan, Tiny Tavares and Johnny Gill.
