High Surf, Rip Currents Expected Wednesday
Be careful if you go near the water today. Rip currents and high surf are expected.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of high surf and rip currents along the south coast of Rhode Island today and Thursday.
Remnants from the Tropical Storm Leslie will bring high surf and swells. Waves could reach up to eight feet, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS also warns of beach erosion and rip currents. Swimmers and surfers are warned of how rapidly a rip current can carry a swimmer into deeper water.
If you are a poor swimmer, you should swim parallel to the beach until out of the rip currents' pull. Do not attempt to swim back to shore directly against the current.
