Christina Larisa provided information and photos on the game.

The Barrington/Mt. Hope/Portsmouth co-op girls’ ice hockey team is the best in Rhode Island in Division 1.

The girls beat Burrillville/Ponaganset co-op Sunday afternoon, 2-1, at Schneider Arena at Providence College to sweep the best-of-three series in two games.

A short-handed, unassisted goal 8 minutes into the first period by Chelsea Larisa gave the squad a 1-0 lead.  Defense then ruled the ice for the rest of the first period, all of the second period, and early in the third stanza.

Barrington remained up by that single goal until Burrillville scored 6 minutes into the third period to tie the game.

Barrington quickly answered with a goal by Leah Hoder on an assist by Sophie Faxon to regain the lead at 2-1. Barrington was able to maintain that advantage the rest of the way to win the Division 1 title.

Sophie Faxon had 26 saves in goal for Barrington. Emily Carlson of Barrington was named the series MVP.
