Firefighters Rescue Man From Water After Boat Capsizes

A man was pulled out of the Sakonnet River Wednesday night after his boat capsized.

For the second time in two days, Portsmouth firefighters responded Wednesday to the Sakonnet River for a report of a capsized sailboat.

Firefighters responded at 7:41 p.m. to Park Avenue near Flo's Clam Shack. According to Capt. Michael O'Brien, a sailboat had capsized, resulting in its owner falling into the water.

Portsmouth launched its inflatable boats, Marine 1 and 3. Marine 3 reached the person in the water first. Firefighters quickly pulled the man from the water, according to O'Brien.

Tiverton Fire Department's boat, Marine 14, towed the overturned vessel back to shore.

The man, whose identity is unknown, was uninjured.

On Tuesday, firefighters also responded to the Sakonnet River near Sandy Point Beach. In this case, four sailboats capsized after strong winds blew the boats off course.
