What kind of business do you think should go here?

While some businesses in Portsmouth have been around for "as long as you can remember," some have closed their doors, either due to poor economic times or simply moving to a new location.

It's been a few months since Handren's Hardware closed its doors and didn't open again.

We want to know what businesses you think would thrive in that location. What type of business would you like to inhabit this empty storefront?

How about a Birkenstock store? Subaru Outbacks would be lined up to Clement's. Just don't block Island Park, where normal people live.

I loved having a hardware store there. Wish another one would open!

Perhaps a Bakery? or do we have one that i'm not aware of? I know Clements has baked goods, but we don't really have a Bakery-Specialized store anywhere, as far as i know anyway.

A children's clothing store, an Art Gallery that sells original fine art & fine artisan works....I don't think there is one in Portsmouth.

Probably a "boring" idea, but what about a Bank of America branch? Closest one on the island is in Middletown and I always wondered why there isn't a national bank here.

They should put another Subway in there. Because two in one small town just isnt enough. Good things always come in threes.... : \

Even better than just a Subway. Abortion clinic / subway. Get an abortion, then grab yourself a Five Dollar Foot Long.

REALLY!
This would be a great spot for ElParques to reopen...depending on the sq footage.
In fla, there are tons of Rest/Bars in strip malls and are very successful.. We are seeing more and more of this in our area now...

In reality, a certain five dollar footlong may have been the cause of needing an abortion in the first place, so you'd be going there to get rid of the product of a a footlong, then buying a new one.. lol

I will reopen Posh and Naughty. It was recession proof and kept me at the time a single mom an almost homeowner and I was never on welfare or foodstamps. There are a million naughty people in Ports who LOVED my store and the negative detractors were jealoua. Thanks tl my supporters 5yrs. ago my kids were well dressed, full bellies and we had everything the American Dream could have been. sadly...Tiverton was full of shoplifters and I had to quit. Women and Couples who were confident and awesome and supported my dream of economic independence. I am married now and have a new layer of experience.

Loved your store. Haven't found anything like it since online or off. Wish you would re-open. I would definitely visit.

Mrs. Kirley,
People who like sex and/or sex shops are not "naughty". Sex isn't naughty it's natural. Don't assume people were jealous of you. My complaint is that you stood scantily dressed waving from the side of the road. I was nearly killed when a man gawking at you drove onto the wrong side of the road and swerved within inches of hitting me head on. I turned around drove right up to you and told you right there that although I appreciated cleavage and fish nets as much as the next person I didn't think it was good judgement on your part to advertise in a way that was CLEARLY going to distract drivers. And don't argue that it's no different than the liberty tax service statue waving. It is different. I am "confident and awesome" and I wouldn't deny anyone the American dream. I am also a single mother supporting my children. I hope your "new layer of experience" includes better judgement in all arenas.

"Tiverton was full of shoplifters" Trish... with a statement like that, I suspect it was more than the recession and shoplifting that did you in... You were a spectacle and you enjoyed being one... It works when you're in your 20's.. not so much when you hit your 40's..

Just a shame the hardware store didn't make it. I was in there several times for stuff and thought it was convenient.
