DOT Vehicle Digs Trench, Becomes Stuck on Portsmouth Beach

A Department of Transportation (DOT) loader became stuck along the Sakonnet River Wednesday afternoon.

An attempt to prevent flooding along Park Avenue turned into a sticky situation for the Department of Transportation (DOT) Wednesday afternoon.

A DOT loader was digging a trench when the vehicle became stuck on the beach, said DOT spokesman Bryan Lucier.

"One of the vehicles got stuck in the wet sand," Lucier said. "It was pulled out within an hour. There was no damage to the vehicle."

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was removed from the sand around 3:15 p.m.

The DOT has been digging trenches in the beach along the Sakonnet River recently to prevent flooding along Park Avenue.

DOT workers decided to dig today to prepare for heavy rains predicted for the area Thursday.

I don't think the DOT workers decided to dig a trench themselves...that order would have came from Providence
