If the Feds have their act together, the response to this letter was written 6 months ago and is sitting in a folder waiting for this day. Since the Feds don't like to be told when to release things, it will come out around the second week of April.
The letter won't stop anything but it does create another reason for going to court. That's what makes the letter important - not its impact but that it serves as foundation.

I guess we have to hope the DOT did a sloppy job . The first mistake was using Governor Gumps idea to toll.

Please dear God, do not say or do anything stupid. Message control has been really weak so far. For instance, references to Governor "Gump" are out.
Quite frankly, I don't know if you can be trusted to do this properly. It's probably going to be another abortion.
It would help if you knew who you were trying to impress.

Bob ,You don't impress anyone . Go sell your time shares . This Governor is an idiot and needs to be booted from office . At least I had the good sense to vote for Republican John Robitaille for Governor . He had a plan to revive our economy, not push it further in the hole. Gov Gump, dumb as a stump .

Please no tolls It would kill business on the island. Who from Mass. would pay $8.00 to take a drive to Newport on a Sunday afternoon to buy an ice cream cone, go to lunch or dinner. Also who would pay to go to our beautiful Newport beaches instead they would go to Horseneck beach. More revenue for R.I. out the window. The Governor had to be asleep at the switch when he turned this over the RIBTA, but that's pretty much where he's always at "asleep at the switch"

Joe, as a TCC member, impressing people isn't your strong suit. Again, this is a game for adults, not angry cranks who are all talk.

Robert Oliveira , thats rich talk coming from you, calling the thousands of voters who signed petitions,started Stop in Middletown and Tiverton and don't toll in portsmouth just "tea party filth" shows by that statement just who needs to grow up, Part of your big problem are your own words " this is a game for adults" I think we did the adult thing and didn't whine or cry, WE the FILTH organized, spoke up about a grave injustice, and are legaly fighting it in any manner we can, because We The Dems and Republicains and the folks who vote the person, not the party(if thats the tea party then they have been here for years, starting with Washington, Jefferson and many others) So if were teabaggers as you say then i guees you would beconsidered a Carpet bagger

Jim, besides that making no sense, it didn't make any sense.
Let me help you - the government has ignored the petitions. The government has a ready answer for this letter. The Democratic Leadership at the General Assembly is not going to be influenced by a number of right wing cranks.
You are not "legally fighting it", whatever the Hell that means, because up to know, the other side doesn't think you're fighting. Your reference to both Washington and Jefferson is offensive. Please don't talk about people you know nothing about.
Do you even know what a carpet bagger is??

@robert and Jim
Talking about history won't do us any good, we.will.end.up.seeing.a.toll. It's what this messed up state wants to do, the state doesn't like us islanders, in fact, they hate us. Even though newport brings in some good revenue the tourist already are paying a toll, so they could careless. And putting a toll on our side is what's making it personal. Very few tourist come down 24, so yet again it's us locals it drags though the mud. I myself once considered myself as a "republican" but no am so pissed with BOTH party's it's complete bs. My rights are being violated everyday (mostly 2nd) and with the state being so far in debt they're rats on a sinking ship and we the people are the ship it self. Partitions don't do anything. Just lets "gump" know we don't approve. But the bridge has to get paid some way. So....here's my idea.....put a $10 tax every year to every Rhode Island citizen with roughly a million people in our small corrupt state that would pay off the bridge completely in X amount of years, before maintenance is required.

Middletown killed the 24 cross island plan a long time ago.
Those folks from the South have a much greater tendency to spend at least one overnight.
