Portsmouth High Student Cody McMillian Receives Eagle Scout Honors

Cody McMillian, an honor student and junior attending Portsmouth High School, recently received his Eagle Scout Medal during his Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony. Cody is the son of Craig and Chris McMillian of Portsmouth.

The ceremony was held at The Portsmouth United Methodist Church, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. With many of his fellow scouts in attendance, family and friends, Cody achieved the highest rank in scouting. Eagle rank is earned by only 5% of all boy scouts each year.

In order for Cody to achieve the prestigious Eagle rank he needed to complete his Eagle Scout community service project. He organized, supervised and rolled up his sleeves to reroof, reside and repaint the Secretary Booth at Glen Park. He was assisted by other members of his troop: Ethan Melillo, Sean Buchanan, Thomas Eyre, Chad Dickison, Clay Dickison, Sawyer Nichols, Chris Cawley, Alex Cournoyer and was all smiles while giving the building a much needed face lift. The adult leaders who helped in this project were his father Craig McMillian, Alex Cournoyer, Jay Melillo, and Chris Julius. Mr. Julius was also Cody’s Eagle Advisor.

Cody is especially known for his good nature, patience and leadership skills! The many skills that Cody has learned through scouting will surely prepare him for his lifelong journey. Cody would like to thank the following local businesses for supporting his Eagle project: Parvo Paints, One Stop Building Supplies, Humphrey's and Handren's Hardware. Members of The Glen Park Committee, Alexandra Rogers (Bonome) and Grace Kinnunen were very grateful for the work Cody did and formally thanked him at Portsmouth Town Hall.
