Portsmouth Resident named USA Swimming Academic All-American

Portsmouth resident Jake Hassel learned last week he had been named to the USA Swimming 2011-2012 Scholastic All-America Team. Nationwide the roster includes 1,226 swimmers (630 girls and 596 boys) including 33 swimmers (19 girls & 14 boys) from New England.
The Scholastic All-America Team is made up of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who have achieved the required time standard in a single event. Jake’s qualifying swim was the 200 yard butterfly in 1:52.06 at the New England Senior Championships in December 2011.
Jake is a 2012 graduate of the St Andrew’s School in Barrington, RI, and spent his high school career as a member of Seacoast Swimming Association in Seekonk,
MA. Jake is a freshman at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, and will be competing for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.
