Portsmouth High School Graduate Battling Brain Cancer

  • July 26, 2012

Portsmouth High School (2000) and Roger Williams University (2004) graduate Katherine Sleeper (Lennahan) is fighting brain cancer and needs the support of our community. At PHS, Katy was active in the marching band and orchestra. She went on to graduate with honors from RWU in Visual Arts, and throughout college worked at Anthony’s Seafood, Hotel Viking, and the Newport Regatta Club.

After college, Katy married her husband Dustin, with whom she has a wonderful three year old son. Before her illness, she worked with developmentally disabled adults, helping them learn vocational and pre-vocational skills and find meaningful work in their communities.

In spring 2012, she was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma,  a malignant tumor that is rare for a healthy thirty year old. The illness, extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and time away from work and family has been very hard on Katy.

Her parents, Becky and Pat Lennahan, are long time Portsmouth residents who are doing everything they can to help their daughter.

Her family and friends are raising money to help support her while she is out of work undergoing treatment.

Community support will make such a great difference to this family! Please read about Katy and consider donating. Your gift - in any amount - is greatly appreciated.
