Portsmouth DPW to Pick-up Nemo Branches on Town Roads

Residents are urged to place branches directly related to Blizzard NEMO (no larger than 8 inches in diameter) curbside for collection by Public Works.  Residents are also advised not to bundle or cut branches, unless necessary to put curbside.  The deadline to have branches placed curbside will be March 4, 2013.

The transfer station will be open for residents that live on private or State roads and have a valid sticker. Materials too large to fit in a 55 gallon container must be cut to no more than 3 foot in length and bundled with twine for proper disposal.

If you have any questions please contact Public Works at 683-0362.

The town requires that branches are to fit "in a 55 gallon container...or be cut to 3 foot and bundled with twine." Don't you think it's time the town council decides to take the side of the citizen who pays taxes rather than some size and bundling requirement of the contractors who contract with the town?

Mr. Miller, the town has the "55 gallon container" requirement and "bundled with twine" requirement for yard waste in an effort to ease disposal and move along traffic through the transfer station. Hopefully this helps all citizens at the transfer station by keeping the wait times down for everyone disposing of yard waste! The 3' length requirement is so the compacting equipment is not damaged when the yard waste is compacted. (Which has happened.) The equipment does not belong to the contractor, but to the town, and hence the citizens. The town is trying to protect your investment! I hope this information helps you understand why the town asks for what it does.

They don't want you to cut or tie the branches because they put them in the shredder truck.

When you bring yard waste to the transfer station it should be bound and cut up. When the town comes by to pick up your branches curbside they should not be cut or tied up.

What is the schedule for picking up the branches, please? It's March 14th and the neighborhood looks like a beaver dam.
