MAS STUDENTS RECEIVE PRESIDENTIAL ACTIVE LIFESTYLE AWARDS
Portsmouth, RI – May 29, 2012 -- Four Moves After School (MAS) students have received Presidential Active
Lifestyle Awards (PALA) for their achievements this spring. The PALA, a program of the President’s
Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition is given to students in recognition of
their individual commitment to regular physical activity and the pursuit of a
healthy lifestyle. Michael Archer, Garyleena
Quinones, Penelope Quiroa and Georgie Smith were awarded certificates
as part of the MAS program in Portsmouth.
PALA promotes physical activity and good nutrition, because
it takes both to lead a healthy lifestyle.
In order to qualify for the award, youth (Ages 5-17) need to be active
at least 60 minutes a day, five times per week for 6 weeks. Students also commit to one new healthy
eating goal each week.
is an after school enrichment program for children in grades K thru 6. Programs are designed for families that need
the support and convenience of a daily after school schedule for their
children. The MAS mission is to provide fun and innovative
opportunities for children that will help them develop and maintain a
healthy lifestyle. Our intentional approach to fitness, arts, nutrition and
wellness will help children develop healthy eating habits, make physical fitness
part of their daily lives and encourage them to be advocates for a healthy
