Two of the finest people you ever want to meet. Both had a sharp wit and were very generous in sharing their information about the history of Green Animals and of course lots of tips about gardening. My heart and prayers go out to their family.

A loss for Portsmouth--and the state, but how fitting that their long lives would end together. They left us with a rich heritage--of "Green Animals" and how to live wonderful, giving lives. They made our world more beautiful, now God is making theirs the same.

We were lucky to have such treasures in our town of Portsmouth. To many who visit Portsmouth is Green Animals. The Mendoncas were Mr and Mrs Green Animals. Mary living there her entire life and George gardening for 50 years .
Anyone who knew them could see the love for garden and each other. What wonderful lives they had and shared with all who knew them.

It was shock enough to learn of Mary's passing and now George. It came to mind of that beautiful story and movie "The Notebook" in which James Garner and Gena Rowlands portrayed a couple who loved each other so much that they died together at the end of their lives. I feel although not exact circumstances for this couple that they were bound to leave the earth together and move on to a "Green Animals" in heaven where they will have eternal sunshine and happiness doing what they loved to do. We will miss Mary and George but they have left their mark on all that have known them.
