Boy Scout Troop 82 Awards Eagle Scout Rank
Dakota Carvara, 15, of Boy Scout Troop 82, sponsored by Saint Mary's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held on May 5, 2012 at the Portsmouth United Mehodist Church in Portsmouth.
Dakota is the son of Aimee Carvara and the grandson of Beth Smith of Portsmouth. He has been active in Scouting for the last 7 years and is the first in his family to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
To earn the rank of Eagle, a Scout must bring all he has learned together and lead others to complete a service project benefitting a church, school or community. Dakota’s Eagle project was to build and install three portable clothing racks for Lucy’s Hearth of Middletown. Dakota achieved this with the help from fellow scouts, and donations from One Stop Building Supply, Home Depot, Handren’s Hardware, Kenneth Gallison of Newport Glass Co, Beth Smith and the late George Goodreau.
Within Boy Scouts, Dakota has served as the Troop’s Senior Patrol leader, Scribe, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Den Chief and Chaplain’s Aid. He is currently a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America’s honor society.
A sophomore at Portsmouth High School, Dakota was recently nominated to represent Portsmouth High School at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conferences in June.
