7th Annual SSG Christopher Potts Memorial Fishing Tournament
Join us for the 7th Annual SSG Christopher
Potts Memorial Fishing Tournament September 7-15
This year's featured entertainment: The Triple Threat Blues Crusade.
Every year, the family of Staff Sergeant Christopher Potts and the Aquidneck Island Striper Team has
the privilege of hosting a fishing tournament to honor our native son who was
mortally wounded in Iraq. For the last six years, we have been raising money
for the SSG Christopher Potts Memorial Fund through local donations and a
shared desire to keep Chris’ memory alive.
SSG Potts was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 103rd Field Artillery Regiment, Army
National Guard, Providence, RI. He died
in Taji, Iraq on October 3, 2004 while conducting traffic control operations. Chris
was 38 years old. He left a wife and two fine sons behind. Chris was an avid
fisherman and loved sharing this passion with his family. In his memory, family,
friend and anglers alike gather annually at this tournament to fish and
celebrate Chris’ honor and sacrifice.
Donations will be accepted through, SSG Christopher Potts Fishing Tournament c/o
Riverside Marine, 211 Riverside Drive, Tiverton, RI 02878. If you prefer, we
can make arrangements to pick up donations at your convenience. If your company
would like to find out more about sponsorship opportunities, please contact us
at the numbers below. The best way
tosupport this great event is to join us on September 15 at the awards
ceremony. You don’t need to fish to
attend. We just ask for a donation of
whatever you can afford for entry.
This year’s tournament will start of Friday, September 7th at noon and end at noon
on Saturday, September 15th. The benefit will be held at the Portuguese
American Citizen Club in Portsmouth, RI on Saturday, September 15th from 3pm to
7pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Riverside Marine, Sam’s Bait &
Tackle, Saltwater Edge, Quaker Lane Bait & Tackle, Bucko’s Tackle, Lucky
